Lord Of The Flies _ Themes William Golding is the author of Lord of the Flies, a novel about adventure and a society of young innocent boys who over time become evil. He was born in the year of 1911, in Newquay, Cornwall, SW England, United Kingdom. He was the son of a schoolmaster who had radical beliefs in politics and science. William’s parents had the wish for their son to go and study natural science and English at Brasenose College, Oxford. And that was what he did, but ever since he was younger he loved to write. After his graduation from Oxford, Golding moved and wrote plays in London, and became a settlement house worker in 1939. In 1939 William Golding moved to Salisbury where he taught English at Bishops Wordsworth School. Then later on during WWII he had served on the Royal Navy. After serving in the war, Golding went back to teaching, but this time, with the darker view on humanities progress. “Golding spent a short time working in the theater as a writer and actor.
