As Simon first appears on the island he shows weakness as he faints “The choir boy who fainted got up against a palm trunk, smiled pallidly at Ralph and said that his name was Simon (p.22).” Simon’s weakness in his fainting demonstrates that he is not perfect in his Christ like goodness. This weakness can expose him in his generosity and kindness. (p.56)” On the Island the boys are in need of something to look forward too, and with Simon as a figure of goodness and truth, he shows concern and helps put out their perspective of being forever lost on an island.
