Flies

Flies The Eggs from Lake Tanganyika Professor Meyer-Maier studies flies in Africa, and one day while on an expedition, discovers a nest full of very large eggs. He steals the eggs and brings them home only to discover that within lay gigantic tse-tse flies. The eggs hatch and start flying around drinking the blood of horses. The army gets involved and has to bring these creatures down. Then they kill and capture the flies and all the danger is gone. Everyone is happy, the end. This story made me very upset. In the head notes it states that it is not the first of its kind, and that it is just an archetypal tale. The language is extremely dated having been written in 1926, and that generally annoyed me. Science fiction tales from that time are too optimistic, for the endings are always positive. One thing in this story that struck me as odd is the way the character’s names were written. All the names were spelled out twice, each spelled differently, but for the same name. I can not think of any reason why the author would do this except for flies, story, human, just, giant, out, kong, fly, eggs, same, godzilla, brought, world, tse-tse, spelled, own, never, king, destroy, always, way, turns, time, thing, race, professor, place, people, part, one, name, monster, first, evil, evidence
