Huckleberry Finn
The conflict between society and the individual is a theme portrayed throughout Mark Twain's novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Huck was raised outside of society, and this made it hard for him to conform. Huck is forced to rely on his own instincts to make his decisions, and this often allows him to make the right decision, even in times when people who have conformed to society, like Tom, couldnt.
This theme can be seen throughout the book, and that helps Huck come to the realization that society is often wrong, and it takes an individual to realize it. Throughout history many injustices have been done by the masses who conform themselves to fit in with others. Many times these tragedies can be avoided by people simple thinking for themselves, and not just doing what everyone else does.
During the era that the book was set in, slavery was a way of life. The economy of the south depended on the use of slavery, and it had become a socially acceptable practice. Many of the people who took part in slavery considered themselves Christian, but were committing one of the greatest crimes of humanity. Slavery took
