Grapes Of Wrath Essay
Often in our society, the spotlight is on figures of material wealth, but what about those who choose transcend that to a higher level of success' In his novel, The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck uses the property owners in California and their interaction with the migrants to examine the perils of Capitalism. In Chapter 21, Steinbeck brilliantly depicts the overall plight of the migrant people, which, in every aspect, mirrors the story of the Joad family. The drastic lifestyle change, unconditional group cooperation and the endless efforts put forth by the migrants, as well as the false sense of power and prejudice that the property owners possessed, are all major factors that Steinbeck uses to convey his views on Capitalism and how it effected not only the Joads, but the migrant society on their long plight to prosperity.
Before enduring the pain and desperation of their journey west, the migrants are forced to leave behind their only known lifestyle and start over, their only support being from their own families and the dreams that keep them striving to reach their destinies.
