Grapes Of Wrath John Ernst Steinbeck was bon February 27, 1902 in Salinas, California. He grew up near farm land and farm workers . He did not live far from the Pacific cost. He went to Stanford University and dropped out, but in the mean time he was writing a book called Cup of Gold. John Steinbeck died in 1968 having won a Nobel Prize in 1962.. He began writing the Grapes of Wrath in1930‘s. His plot rooted in historical events in the 1930’s. There was an environmental disaster with the dust bowl in Oklahoma. Then there was the U.S. stock market crashed in 1929, and there we so many people out of work. Land companies began removing familys from there homes and farms. With people out of work and home, they began to travel around to try to find jobs. With people needing money just to feed their family’s, companies to total advantage of this and sometimes only paid one half of what they would regularly pay. Steinbeck did his research on the labor force, which let him know the effect propaganda has on the economy.
