Great thinkers try to understand and define it, and artists try to portray it through mixtures of paint using various brush strokes. But no matter how hard they endeavor to comprehend or capture death, it still remains as illusive and enigmatic as ever. Emily Dickinson is a poet celebrated for her poems on death. Poems such as “Safe in their Alabaster Chambers”, “Because I could not stop for Death”, and “I heard a Fly buzz-when I died” remain as some of the greatest poems of our time. It is evident that Emily Dickinson was fascinated of what lied beyond life and in the mysteries of death and immortality. Through her poetry, Emily Dickinson explored death and its obscurities. Emily Dickinson explored the dead as they lay in their resting places in “Safe in their Alabaster Chambers.” She wrote “…Untouched by Morning / And untouched by Noon- / Sleep the meek members of the Resurrection -…” Morning and noon represent the different points in time of someone’s life.
