The Count of Monte Cristo rewarded those who remained true to him. Monsieur Morrel and Jacopo were two of his true friends the he repaid generously. Morrel, the owner of the Pharon who decides to make Dantes the Captain, risked his reputation by applying for Dantes release continually; which was a politically dangerous act. Also when he hears of Dantes death, he made the proper arrangements for the ceremony. When the Count learned of these facts, he returned the favor first by saving his life and also recovering his fortune.
