On the bottom globe there is a red liquid, and when a child places their hands on the orb, the liquid moves up through the spirals to the top. The child learns that heat makes the liquid move through experience. A reader also learns though experience the difference between interpretative and escape literature. The bottom globe represents a work of literature. Just by looking at it the reader doesn’t know if it’s going to be interpretative literature or escape literature, such as the child wonders about the red liquid on what’s its purpose. Once the reader begins to interpret the story, they use previous knowledge to compare and contrast the two possible literature classifications. The child also uses prior facts to figure out that if they keep their hands on the bottom orb, the red liquid will move up.
