Catcher And The Rye Catcher in the Rye is a story about a teenage boy who finds himself in a psychiatric hospital. Holden Caulfield had was sixteen when he was kicked out of Pencey Prep. High school. That was the third school he had been kicked out of for not keeping up with his grades. Holden decided, since he was leaving, that he would leave school early and go to New York city before he went back to his house. In New York, he discovered many new, disturbing things. For example, in his hotel, he saw a man dressed as a woman. Also, at his hotel, he decided to invite a prostitute to his room. Holden was told it would cost five dollars. The girl went to his room, Holden backed out of the deal but still paid her. The next day, she came back with her employer saying Holden owed her five more dollars. Her employer punched Holden and took the money. The only people that knew that Holden was in the city was his old girlfriend, Sally, and his sister, Phoebe. Holden invited Sally out on a date. They went to the movies and ice skating. That’s when Holden started to become strange.
