An Hour Before Daylight In the book entitled An Hour Before Daylight, written by Jimmy Carter, the president talks about a time in his life growing up in a segregated society in Plains, Georgia. He recollects just how farm life was in the 30’s and 40’s during the depression, and how the farmers in the south treated their neighbors both white and black. Carter’s clean and eloquent writing style calls to mind a time when the cycles of life were predictable and simple. In his remarkable point of view, Jimmy Carter creates a sensitive description of an era that shaped the nation. Jimmy Carter was born in Plains, Georgia in 1924, where he was raised on a farm with his family. He learned at an early age how to butcher animals, how to grow crops and care for food, and how to manage the farm business. Carter was very well trained in the upkeep and hard work that is involved in taking care of a farm. One thing that greatly influenced Carter’s young childhood was his relationship with members of the black community.
