A Tribe Apart A Tribe Apart Before I began this book I was not very excited or interested in the topic of the book. As I started reading it, I began to relate it to what I went through in my teenage years and it was very similar. It motivated and interested me to keep reading along. Hersch wanted to know why teenagers are “acting out” or doing the “wrong” things. But not only about the “troublemakers”, she also wanted to know about the normal teenagers and know what they were going through. She does this by going to schools to observe how the adolescents interact with each other. After a few months of that research she begins to go more in depth into eight teenagers lives. She wants to know everything about them: what they think about, why they think certain things, why they do what they do, etc. She studies the teenagers by interviewing them, by not letting them know exactly what she is getting at. She does this by taking them to eat or to a park, where they can feel comfortable or at ease to act natural and tell her the through. She did not want them to “act” or say things tribe, apart, because, teenagers, about, way, socialization, sex, know, family, through, related, relate, out, don’t, very, think, things, school, make, just, interactions, children, wanted, time, though, people, need, liked, interested, great, book, being, years, wrong, today, tell, started
