On their way to see Eric, they get stopped by Heartless (Mr. Hartman). He told April that her shirt was not appropriate for school and he sent her to the office to receive a sweater from the school secretary. The sweater she receives is a sickly shade of purple with big barrel-shaped wooden buttons down the front. The sweater was enormous. Amber’s Grandma would have thought it was right in style but no one else at Central would think so except for a few teachers. While Amber is in this fashionably wrong sweater, Amber learns about the sweater’s past. Her classmates tell her about the time they wore the sweater.
