Animal Farm The Battle of the Cowshed The battle of the cowshed was the first battle of the novel. This was the most significant part of the novel because it led to so many things. It was the battle when the animals took action and succeeded for control of formally known as “Manor farm” but now is called “Animal Farm”. An animal that was very significant in the beginning of the novel was Old Major. Old Major, the prize-winning boar, gathered the animals of the Manor Farm together for a meeting in the big barn. He tells them of a dream he had, in which all animals lived together in a paradise with no humans to oppress or control them; he tells the animals that they must work toward such a paradise, then teaches them a song called "Beasts of England," in which his dream vision is described in lyrics. The animals are deeply enthusiastic about Old Major's vision. When he dies only three days after, two younger pigs, Snowball and Napolean, form his main principles into a philosophy called Animalism. Then one night the! animals get together and battle the humans for control, this was called the battle of the cowshed.
