This website has information on many drugs of abuse, but I was specifically looking for information on stimulants and found that this site had a wealth of information. Amphetamines were first created in 1887, but were not used medically until about 1930. Between 1930 and the early 1960s, amphetamines were prescribed to a variety of people with some experiencing no bad effects, while others showed mild forms of amphetamine abuse. Obvious abuse of the drug began to show in the United States in the 1960s, when amphetamines were injected intravenously, and dependence problems became obvious. The Controlled Substances Act reclassified amphetamines as a Schedule II Drug.
