Self Assessment and Reflection Yanaga 1 Self-Assessment and Reflection Personal assessment is a necessary step in determining your personal development needs, according to your current situation and future aspirations. To properly assess yourself different aspects of your life must be analyzed, including your personal learning style, values, interests, skills and your personality. Once you have analyzed these components you can begin to formulate a strategic plan that you will be able to follow to reach your goals and help you make intelligent career choices. Understanding your personal learning style can help you determine which situations and careers offer you the best potential for success. Putting yourself in situations favorable for your learning style will allow you to thrive. Situations not suitable for your learning style may leave you feeling frustrated and unsuccessful. For example, since I am a type 2 learner (McCarthy 46-51) I prefer to work independently. I am highly organized and efficient, I work well in a structured environment and I am a detail oriented individual that relies on factual data and logic I work well with a set agenda and prefer to have a structured time line to complete projects.
