Children And Depression Abstract The study is to evaluate the effectiveness of antidepressant therapy in children in comparison with alternative psychotherapies. The participants will include 100 children ranging in age from 4-17 .There will be 48 female and 52 male subjects. The subjects will be selected at random half from a Mississippi physician and the remainder from a Mississippi psychologist. The experiment will be blind. No interaction between researchers and subjects will take place. Data will be collected and based solely on medical records of the physician or psychologist treating the patient. All participants will have to undergo psychiatric evaluation for proper diagnoses utilizing Children’s Depression Index (CDI) and a physical examination. The experiment will be carried out over six months. The Effectiveness of Antidepressant Therapy in Children in Comparison to Alternative Psychotherapies The study will be used as an evaluative measure in a goal to reduce and possibly prevent suicide among youth. As of 2002 suicide was the “3rd leading cause of death among 15-19 year olds”.
