Dr. Bloodstein Talks About Stuttering Dr. Bloodstein is an M.D. who took time to study stuttering. He went through the history, and different theories thought up by teachers and doctors. Also, he talked about a different variety of solutions that could help the problem. 2 early theories that were explained are by Aristotle and Galen. Aristotle assumed that stuttering was caused by the tongue moving to slowly, to catch up with the mind. Galen assumed that the tongue was too big and engorged. In the 19th century there were later theories provided thought up by other people. One theory was brought up by Samuel Orton. His theory was regarding that, stutters were supposed to be left-handed. But, somehow earlier in their life they started using their right hand and adapted to it. So, they became right handed. Another theory was theorized by Robert West. He assumed that it was accidentally picked up by, diseases, injuries, or emotional stress. He highlighted the similarity of stuttering to a childhood seizure disorder known as "psyknolepsy," a disorder that begins from ages 4-10 years and is described by brief seizures that occur up to 100 times daily. stuttering, thought, theory, speech, problem, help, because, way, things, theories, stutters, stutter, started, brought, book, assumed, wrong, van, tongue, today, through, they’ll, therapy, supposed, study, solutions, riper, right, pretending, people, parents, out, make, live, later
