Hemishpheric Arousal
There are different parts in the human brain that contribute to the way we think, behave, and feel, each situated in its own area of either the left hemisphere or the right hemisphere. From this, a theory has developed that when we think, depending on what we are thinking about determines which way our eyes will shift and recognise whether we are lying or stating the truth. Language and arithmetic abilities are controlled by the left hemisphere, so when someone is thinking about something to do with these subjects, they tend to look to the right. The right hemisphere consists of spatial and drawing abilities therefore when something of this kind is aroused, the subject should gaze to the left. Each action is the opposite of what one would think because through the human eyes, it is the opposite to what it is like on the other side of the optic nerves. It is the purpose of this report to see if eye gazing is an indicator of hemispheric arousal.
The hypothesis for this experiment is to find out whether subjects solving different hemispheric questions (IV) will demonstrate the appropriate eye gaze (DV) that is needed to support the theory.
