Depression is diagnosed when a patient shows the typical symptoms of the disorder, which can be a sense of worthlessness, loss of energy, anhedonia, lack of concentration, and suicidal ideation. Depression can occur in a single episode or in reoccurring episodes. There are many variations of depressive disorders, which include major depression disorder (MDD), double depression and depressions that occur along with other disorders. Each type of depression further characterized by its own specific onset, course, and duration. Like most mood disorders, depression is co-morbid, meaning that it occurs in conjunction with other disorders such as eating disorders or substance abuse. In this paper I will attempt to discuss and differentiate treatment methods for multiple types of depression.
