Depression is a deteriorating and serious illness that involves the body, mood and thoughts. It changes the way a person eats and sleeps, the way one feels about oneself, and the way one thinks about things. It also is a disease that does not discriminate. Many adolescents suffer from depression and its popular link teen suicide. Its no surprise that Latchkey children are quite often those later teens who suffer from adolescent depression. Numbers show that adolescent suicide is responsible for more death in youths aged 15 to 19 than cardiovascular disease or cancer (Blackman, 1995).
