Autism Autism Sleep deficiency, having a high pain and fear thresh hold, poor social skills and echolalia are all common characteristics of autism. Autism is a "neurobiological disorder" that impairs communication and social skills. There is as of yet no clear consensus on the exact cause of autism. Still there are many theories and assumptions made by parents and their physicians. This lack of substantial information of the subject may by credited to the fact that the disease was not recognized until the World War II era. This has left many concerned parents uncertain as to what to do about the long term care of their children with special needs. Three of those children are Charlie, Austin, and Jimmy. This paper will discuss and analyze the terms and characteristics of each of the three unique boys’ disorder. Charlie was diagnosed with autism at the age of two. His symptoms included "tantrums where he would flip himself backwards", staring at objects for long periods of time, subtle changes in routine, and inadequate speech for his age norms. Concern was first raised that Charlie may be autistic when his parents, concerned with his abnormal speaking patterns, took him for a speech evaluation.
