Romanovs Introduction The following historical inquiry looks at the key reasons for the fall of the Romanovs dynasty in Russia. The issue will be discussed, as it is one of the most important events during the 20th century in Russia. “It is history that provides a stimulating new approach to an understanding of pre-Revolutionary Russia.” (Sydney Harcave). The royal family reigned for over 300 years, and suddenly came to the end in 1917; the year when the last Russian emperor Nicholas II and his family were cruelly killed in Ekaterinburg. Being the last of the tsars, Nicholas II should be considered the most when discussing reasons for the fall of the Romanov’s. This paper looks at the evens that took place during Nicholas’ rule, which accumulatively lead to his abdication. The two sources that were mostly used are Years of the Golden Cockerel and The Fall of the Romanovs. Factual Summary of Events The image of Nicholas II that dominates historical memory is of a weak and witless ruler, ill equipped to cope with the challenges of bringing Russia into the modern age (Steinberg, 1995, p.30).
