Chomsky Chomsky’s Thesis Chomsky’s controlling idea doesn’t change much for the first half of the reading; he believes that the U.S. attempts to control third world countries for it’s own benefit. He discusses the ability of our government to seemingly change direction without really changing anything at all. We went from suppressing the third world to stop the USSR to suppressing the third world to stop drug trafficking. All the while, the United States is not helping anyone but us. Because of the government’s ability to dupe the public, they are able to build an outstanding world for us. When the U.S. government plunders other countries for their natural resources, the U.S. citizens reap the benefits. One man’s loss is another man’s gain, or country’s, for this matter. You would think that these atrocities would not be accepted by the public, that the government must want us to not find out about these horrible deeds. Absolutely not, there are millions of resources out there to find the truth, but most people just don’t give a shit. Everyone has his or her own problems to worry about.
