Post-War Party Loyalty Just how important is party affiliation in the United States Congress' During the post-WWII years (1942-1967) both parties differed in their willingness to support not only each other, but also their own minorities’ special interests. The most obvious way to demonstrate this is to look at congressional voting records. Though this seems to be the first logical step, being able to find some consistency and order in these records turns out to be a nearly impossible feat. The profession of political science has changed in many ways over the last few decades, from a historical view, to a sociological view, and even on to a mathematical view. The subject being discussed in this paper is to analyze the operations of both the Democrats and the Republicans in postwar Congress in dealing with two major issues: Farm Issues and City Issues. Only the House of Representatives is being examined because it has more than four times as many members than the Senate, therefore more data can be used and a more valid point made. 110 postwar roll call votes have been designated “farm votes” and 51 have been designated “city votes”.
