These reforms express my deep belief in our public schools and their mission to build the mind and character of every child, from every back-round, in every part of America.
President George W. Bush
January 2001
Policy Description
On Jan. 8, 2002, President Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind act of 2001. The act is the most sweeping reform of the Elementary and 2ndary Education Act since ESEA was enacted in 1965. It is based on four basic principles: stronger accountability for results, increased flexibility and local control, expanded options for parents, and an emphasis on teaching methods that have been proven to work. Bush stresses teacher quality and the recruitment of qualified teachers in this Act. According to reports if there are more qualified teachers in the classrooms student performances increase.
