Fidel Castro has governed Cuba ever since 1959 when Castro overthrew Batista’s leadership by organizing a guerrilla campaign that eventually toppled the Batista Regime. Subsequently, Batista decided to resign and leave out of Cuba. Now Cuba is very well known for their political communism, and until recently, their relations with the Soviet Union. When Castro took charge in 1959, the United States recognized the new government immediately, but tensions started to rise promptly between the two nations. Ever since, the issue of political asylum for Cuban refugees has been a significant issue for the US. First, Castro had seized nearly all US owned properties in Cuba and made further agreements with other communist governments. The US, on the other side, built up an invasion called the Bay of Pigs, organized by Cuban exiles that were currently in Florida in 1961.
