Legalizing Marijuana Legalization of Marijuana for Medicinal Uses For many years now, pondering minds have questioned the thought of having marijuana listed as another medicinal drug. Some say that marijuana cannot be used as a medicine and that there is no evidence of its medicinal purpose, but on the other hand, there are those who think differently and pose marijuana as a potential remedy in today’s modern world. Over the past few decades, many organizations that support the legalization of marijuana have formed. Some examples of these organizations are the American Medical Marijuana Association (AMMA). Therapeutic Human Cannabis (THC), and the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML). “During the 1970’s NORML led the successful efforts to decriminalize minor marijuana offenses in 11 states and significantly lower marijuana penalties in all others” (“About”). This caused certain states to change laws in order to allow marijuana to be used as a drug. These states are “Alaska, Washington, California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Maine and he District of Columbia” (“Should”). In any case, marijuana is useful in the medical field and should be legalized for that purpose.
