Amnesty Amnesty Reports: Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador Cuba This article talks about how there are critics of the Cuban government that face harassment for the non-violent expression of their political beliefs. Two men by the names of Leornardo Bruzon Avil and Carlos Alberto Dominquez Gonzalez who are “prisoners of conscience” because they were detained in jail for the non-violent exercise of their freedom of right of expression and association. They have both been held since February 23rd with no trial dates set. Amnesty International is upset that these men are being forced to pay for the exercise of their basic rights. Leonard was arrested on the basis of preventing him from taking part in protester activities. His health has recently deteriorated following a hunger strike he did in protest of his detention which caused him to be transferred to a hospital. The motives for arresting Carlos were unclear but it is suspected that it may have something to do with the fact that days before his arrest he attended several Catholic masses on behalf of political prisoners.
