Death Penalty Is there a valid distinction between killing and allowing to die' Is there a valid distinction between killing and allowing to die, of course there is' If a person walks up to a jogger in the park, and takes his life, against his will, whether it viciously or quick and painless, it was still not authorized by the victim. That is why they are considered a victim. To kill, is to put to death; slay, destroy; nullify; cancel; veto; neutralize. As where allowing to die, is following ones wishes to end their life, and perhaps helping them. It is their decision, their choice, and their life. I am always cautious in starting a sentence or using “I”, in a paper. Even if it is an opinion, it seems very pompous, but in this case I cannot find any other sound way to state my point. Using myself as an example, I hope I can provide an educated response, not just fluff “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing” (Macbeth). If I am terminally ill, and life has become something I do not wish to endure any longer, I feel allowing myself to die is not killing.
