Against Affirmative Action Why I Am Against Affirmative Action Pat and Tony are both applying to UC Santa Barbara. Pat has an accumulative grade point average of 3.8, a 1360 SAT score, and is involved in many extra-curricular activities. Tony has an accumulative GPA of 3.2, an 1100 SAT score, and is not involved in any extra-curricular activities. From these facts, one would assume that Pat would be accepted solely on his merit, but Tony is accepted because he is Mexican and Pat is white. This is an example of Affirmative Action being used in nation wide school systems today. It is clear that schools are not fair in who they accept. One problem that exists is that schools must lower their academic standards in order to accommodate students just because of race and not qualifications. Also, those students that are admitted to the school because of Affirmative Action can be labeled as inferior to those who academically qualified. Wouldn’t you think that minority students would want to be accepted on the basis of their academic skills rather than the color of their skin' Let’s face it, some of us want the easy way out, affirmative, job, action, school, race, students, pat, tony, because, schools, qualified, one, hospital, graduated, company, based, accepted, white, standards, skills, should, score, sat, reason, pay, order, now, mexican, merit, medical, involved, hires, extra-curricular, clear, average
