United Nations Introduction Over the last half century the United Nations has been providing regulation, order and peace throughout the world since the end of the second World War. Wether it is implementing peace efforts via Security Council intervention or Humanitarian endeavours spearheaded by the Economic and Social Council. One thing is reality the United Nations still plays an important role in the world today. Now in the beginning of the 21st century the United Nations must maintain efforts to achieve world harmony and assist the creation of a global community, for us the citizens of the world. In this essay I hope to provide a Historical account with regards to the early development of the United Nations and its predecessor the League of Nations. As well in this paper I will give a detailed breakdown of the United Nations several divisions and specialized agencies. In conclusion I intend to discuss several “milestones “ achieved by the UN over the past 50 years and the UN’s powerlessness in the Cold War Era from 1945 to 1990. The Hague Conferences in 1899 and 1907 were the origins of the League of Nations and later the United Nations.
