Unanswered Love Romantic love is something that is hard to find, but once it is found it may not be always answered back. Love may not always work out the way people expected to, and there may not be a fairy tale ending. Poems “The Flea” and “The Broken Heart” by John Donne, reflect the theme of unreturned love. In the poem “The Broken Heart” the narrator expresses his sadness of giving a heart to his loved one and not getting a her heart in return “I brought a heart into the roome,/But from the roome, I carried none with me”(19-20). In “The Flea” the narrator says to his loved one “Marke but this flea, and marke in this,/How little that which thou deny’st me is”(1-2), which means that what she denies of the narrator, is very little, so little that he compares it to a flea. Romantic love may destroy the heart which feels unloved. I think that a person who fell in love expects love in return, and if their expectations don’t come true their heart will be broken.
