Ripened Blackberries
Ripened Blackberries
The poem Blackberry-Picking provides a detailed description of picking blackberries, and also reveals the consequences of the action. The development of physical intensity and passionate elaboration on the subject embodies the authors experience of picking berries. Imagery, metaphor, and form assist in a deeper understanding of the whole experience.
Imagery plays a major role in the depiction of the authors experience. It also heightens the impact that the poem Blackberry-Picking will have on the reader. Seamus Heaney does that by referring to things that call attention to the readers senses. At first, just one, a glossy purple clot among others, red, green, hard as a knot. Line 3-4. In these two verses of this stanza he refer to the readers sense of touch and sight. This creates a greater sense of verisimilitude, while showing physical intensity by illustrating the stages of ripeness through color and texture of the berries. Heaneys description of his own behavior in seeking the berries stipulates that his cravings are uncontrollable. This creates the image of glutton behavior and bestiality. You ate that first one and its flesh was sweet
