September 1918 "September, 1918 by the modernist poet Amy Lowell was very enlightening poem. It gave a sense of hope and imagination. It was how the writer wanted to see the world in the year of 1918, during World War I. The poet was speaking of the war between the United States adn Germany, one of the first wars of the country that she was exposed to. Lowell was painting a picture of how the world should have been compared to the way it really was. The first stanza paints a picture of a perfect day. She talks about the scenery, which was a colorful sight with trees and leaves. The day she was describing was a blue, sunny afternoon. The sounds of families and childre and laughing and enjoying the wonderful afternoon had filled the air. Although Lowell was imagining a perfect day, that was not how the world was at that moment. She was longing to see a day like in the first stanza where there was no war going on.
