Lorenzo Lotto LORENZO LOTTO Lorenzo Lotto born in 1480 and trained along side of Titian as well as Giorgione in the studio of Giovanni Bellini. Lorenzo Lotto was originally from Venice, however he spent most of his life active in Treviso, Bergamo, and Ancona where the portraits and religious paintings that he specialized in often were sold for higher prices than he would have received back in Venice. Lotto seemed to stray somewhat apart from the dominant Venetian artistic traditions and explored a variety of painters' styles. He did however assimilate the works of Titan as well as other Northern European artists such as Rapheal. But on the other hand his work shows great perceptiveness an awareness and individualism. He is perhaps best known for his portraits due to the ability to capture the real mood and personality of the person. Despite the wonderful portraits that he does I chose to critique one of his other paintings. I choice this perhaps because of my personal religious background or possibly because of the intense detail. I found myself looking threw an considerable amount of Lotto's paintings.
