Langston Hughes Through high school I was taught many lessons of Math, English, Science, etc., and of those many lessons I was taught, only a few ever sparked my interest. I was always a fan of English and writing; not the type of English where you read a story, interpret it, and then write a paper on it, but the kind of English that really explores the imagination. I’ve always enjoyed the writing part of English, things such as creative writing, where you are given the freedom to explore your own thoughts and let them out on paper. This has always interested me, as opposed to reading and analyzing a poem or looking up information on a poet and then writing a piece on his/her life. What I’ve learned this past year, if anything, is that English cannot always be about writing creatively or about what I want. There are many wonderful aspects of this subject that I have blocked from my mind and have refused to let in. Learning is about opening your mind to new things, something that I have never done before.
