Emily Dickensin
Emily Dickinson was born on December 10th, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. Her father, Edward, was a very strict Christian who ran his household very strictly. Her mother was emotionally unstable through Emilys life, which may have been a factor in Emilys eccentric lifestyle.
Emily went to school at Amherst Academy and later went to college at South Hadley Female Seminary. She only attended college for one year before going into a very secluded life.
Emily was never married, but she did have relationships with a few men. Soon after, Emily began to dress in all white. She rarely left her fathers house. In her lifetime, she only took a few trips out of her home town.
In her twenties, Emily began her career as a serious poet. When she had a few poems put together, she thought about publishing her poems anonymously. She decided against the idea. Eventually, she published only seven of her poems. The rest of her poems were published after her death after her sister found her poems.
When the Civil War broke out, it seriously affected Dickinsons work. It is now known
