Einstein: Life & Work Einstein was born on March 14th 1879 in Ulm, Württemberg, Germany. In 1886 he began is studies in Munich and by 1891 was immersed in mathematics and calculus. In 1894 Einstein’s family moved to Milan but he chose to stay in Munich to prepare for entrance exams to Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zurich. However, in 1895, he failed the exams. Eventually Einstein had succeeded and graduated the university in 1900 with a teaching degree in mathematics and physics. Yet his life wasn’t coming along as he couldn’t get a job at any university. One of his friend’s fathers tried to help Einstein get a job by recommending him to the director of the patent office in Bern. Einstein got the job and worked there from 1902 to 1909, slowly moving up the ladder. While working at the patent office at Bern, Einstein wrote a number of books about a wide range of theories in his spare time. One of his works, written in 1905 was based on Max Planck’s quantum hypothesis. Einstein used those works to describe the electromagnetic radiation of light. His second work, also written in 1905 was what we call now the special theory of relativity.
