Art Unit 6 For unit 6 i decided to choose the subject, life and death, which falls under the category, natural forms. I chose this primarily because i like the idea of the contrast between the two. As a starting point i drew skulls on the drawing day. After the drawing day i considered how i could portray both life and death. To show death was fairly easy as objects such as skulls and bones etc come to mind. However, i found that life was more difficult to portray, so i decided upon the theme of strangulation which is directly linked to the live ivy plant. As i progressed through the unit i found that the death theme seemed to appeal to me more than the life theme. Therefore, i focused on this as a basis for my research. For my research i looked at Vanitas paintings from the 17th century Dutch Still life. This appealed to me because of the hidden meanings behind the paintings and what each object in the piece symbolised. What interested me about the work of the artists is how they laid out their compositions and how all of the ones i looked at included skulls in their paintings death, vanitas, theme, piece, paintings, objects, life, work, skull, liked, art, show, seems, painting, idea, found, artists, words, together, though, symbolise, skulls, research, point, out, object, influenced, each, about, way, viewer, unit, through, text, style
