Diego Rivera Diego Rivera was the most famous Chicano artist. He was born on December 13, 1886, in Guanajuato, Mexico. Rivera had a twin brother whom was named Carlos Rivera. Carlos died in 1888 which left Diego as an only child. Since he was very young [he begin to draw at the age of three] he love to paint, so much that his father covered a room of their house in Guanajuato with paper so that the child could paint all over the walls. Diego says that it was in that room were he created his first Murals. Diego and Maria Barrientos Rivera lived on 80 pocito street in the heart of Guanajuato. Diego would described his mom as “diminutive, almost child like with large innocent eyes”. Diego’s father was powerfully built man, tall, black-bearded, and handsome. After the death of Diego’s brother, Maria Barrientos developed a terrible neurosis. At the age of two Diego’s health was so poor that the doctor advised him to be sent to the country to live.
