Flappers The Flappers The flapper Era, characterized by women who reacted against their social position in the 1800’s, marked a drastic change for women in America during the 1920’s. Dorothy Parker, a Flapper herself, depicted the ideas and emotions of this new social group of women during the 1920’s through the use of ‘wisecracks’. The values and reactions to the role of women in the 1800’s are defined below. Unlike the 1800’s, women in the 1920’s began to demand more respect from men and from life in general. This is when women clearly revealed that they did not want to worship every man’s step. Since the women could not voice their feelings flappers would do so through their writings.
