Grasslands Grasslands By: Lauren Brown This book is divided down into three parts. The first third of this book is an overall description of grasslands and the lack of interest in them. As early as the second page, Brown writes about the lack of national parks that are dedicated to the preservation of grasslands. The second third of the book is mostly pictures of the different types of plants and animals that are found in the grasslands. The final third is an in depth description of each animal or plant that was previously pictured. Grasslands are extremely hot during the summer months and very cold during the winter months. Some grasslands only receive about 10 to 30 inches of rain per year. Sometimes the summers in grasslands are so hot that the grass catches on fire extremely easily. These fires are dangerous because they spread through the dry grass rapidly. During the winter, however, the snow might be so high that it will reach up over your head and beyond.
