Welfare Welfare Does More Harm than Good Many years ago a program was developed to aid poor and needy Individuals as well as families in difficult or demanding situations. In the United States this program is called welfare. It is basically a form of public assistance when an individual or family believes they need help to live. As I read Charles Murray’s article on Welfare, I began to develop many strong opinions on the subject. Does it do more harms, than it does good' I believe it does. Every year, the U.S. government spends billions of dollars on national welfare. I believe this money is completely wasted. Why can’t all healthy and able Americans get up every morning, go to work every day, and work their be-hinds off for a hard earned paycheck' I do every week. In essence, this wasted money encourages unemployment, and promotes laziness throughout our society. After all, as long as an American is out of a job, he or she has the opportunity to receive our tax money without raising a finger.
