Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs Illinois was a very unpredictable area. Its temperatures and species were changing throughout millions of years. If you go back far enough we begin with species that we found in Larson Quarry in Illinois. The species date back to 440 million years ago. Probably during the Ordovician period. The Ordovician period was mostly water and wet. With primitive sea creatures that ruled the waters. We can tell this by the type of fossils found. At the site various fossils were retrieved, like trilobites, horn coral, crinoids, brachiopods and griffithides. These are all water inhabiting creatures so you can probably assume that it was just water during this period. Moving up the time line we enter Thornton Quarry in Illinois. Here we have most of the same creatures found at the Larson Quarry but this was 25 million years later. Roughly 415 million years ago. You can see that some of the species probably died out and some remained strong. Some species became more sophisticated. Again we find trilobites and coral. So up to this point Illinois has been a water filled sea of creatures.
