The Glass Manegerie In the Introduction of “The Glass Menagerie”, Tom states that “the play is memory”. Tom is remembering his memories as he tells the store. In the movie version Tom is at the house during the introduction and the conclusion. This clearly signifies that the entire play is the memory of Tom’s past. It’s also a memory play because of all the descriptive objects that are brought forth during it. Such objects would be the gentleman caller or the unicorn. Amanda’s horrifying voice and her undying persistence to nag the hell out of Tom. Tom is obviously talking about his own memories. Since Tom’s departure from the apartment, things became more to clear him. Everything now is just a memory. Having most of the responsibilities of the three, Tom lived a hard life. He was only able to escape while he was at the movies. Living such a life with many difficulties and obstacles to overcome, it would be hard to forget everything. Tom lives a new life, and his old one is the memory. The most important memory is that of the unicorn.
