Nuyorican Dream “Nuyorican Dream” In our lecture class we saw a video called “Nuyorican Dream.” This video talked about a young man named Robert. He was born in Puerto Rico in 1968. He and his family came to New York and began taking welfare. His sisters (Betty and Taty) got pregnant at early teenage years. His brother Danny is always in jail because he’s always getting caught for robbery. Robert is the only one who graduated from High School and finished college. He got a degree and started teaching in Brooklyn. As watching this video I began to observe that most Latina women are women who really care about their kids. No matter what they kids do they still accept them as they are. Robert’s mother only got to the forth grade due to the fact that her parents died when she was three years old. At the age of eight years old she worked full time to take care of herself and her grandmother. Betty, one of Robert sister, is a drug addict with three kids of the ages 5, 1, and 2.
