The Three Orders Of Medieval Society The Three Orders of Medieval Society Charles Duby endeavors to identify the emergence and solidification of the three orders or social classes of medieval society in his book The Three Orders, Feudal Society Imagined. Although the focus of his research in answering the question: “what are the three orders and how did they come about'” is a constant theme throughout the book, Duby’s thesis is more of an agenda concerning his arrival at the conclusion of the formation of the three orders of medieval society. Additionally, in order to keep his thesis specifically inclined towards the evolution and acceptance of the “tripartite ideology”, Duby intentionally limits his research to a particular region in northern France. This approach is particularly useful in laying a foundation for the emergence of the three orders of society because the Frankish monarchy took root, flourished in this region, and eventually spread throughout all of medieval society.
