Serbian Cuisine Serbian Cuisine Yugoslavia is a country that was once made up of many states that included Macedonia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia. Since the many wars that have occurred in this country, Yugoslavia is now made up of only two states; Serbia and Montenegro. Serbian Cuisine is like no other. Even though Serbia is considered to be a Slavic country, there foods and diets differ from many of the other Slavs. Serbian food is rare and original. Being that half of the country is poor, many people especially the ones that live on the farms don’t really have many options to choose from when it comes to eating. Like Americans, we have all types of ingredients, foods, spices, flavors, etc. to choose from from our local supermarkets. Serbian’s do not have these options. As soon as you walk into most Serbian households, the women whether being the wife or daughter of the family will serve you slatko, which is fruit preserves on a tray with cups of water to wash it down with. Sugar and water or honey can also be served as well. This is done not only in the morning but all through out the day.
