WWI World War I, the War of Wars changed the face, definition, expectation and awareness of every war to follow. Due to the rapid advancement in technology and war tactics, the soldiers in the midst of WWI did not know what to expect. War until then was never fought with such force, speed and such devastation. The body count speaks for itself and it would be hard to deny that the beginning of the 20th century was probably Europe’s darkest époque. The severity of this war is felt when reading an unfortunate one’s letter to their family or diary. These documentations leave a bitter taste in your mouth when you attempt to put yourself in his or her shoes. Blind as to what they may be facing next, these soldiers fought for their countries with as much pride and patriotism they could conjure up, although the reason for war was unclear. Whole platoons were mowed down by artillery canons and the German machine gun, both weapons never seen until then and feared by those taking cover in the trenches. Advancing only a few kilometers or not even meant a large loss on both wwi, war, never, thrown, suffered, soldiers, russians, few, every, different, world, until, through, technology, tactics, seen, real, probably, people, out, one, next, much, men, machine, losses, letter, less, left, know, kilometers, hard, fought, fire
